An Amazing Journey

Observations from the campaign trail.

The last few weekends, I have been out and about knocking on doors in neighborhoods. So far I have been in Apremont, Highcroft, Spalding Mill, Regency at Belhaven and Amberfield. The reception I have received has been awesome, to say the least. I always knew that Peachtree Corners was a very special place to live, but that is an understatement! What wonderful community spirit! That was also reflected in the response to our Candidate Forums.

As I spoke with people, what I heard most was a passion to make certain our new city is built on a firm foundation. People are beginning to really research the candidates and are looking for those who have the experience, knowledge and integrity required to lead our city forward. I think the turnout tonight will even surpass the standing room turnout last Tuesday. So my advice is to get to the forum a little early to get a good spot.

Also, there were a lot of questions about what posts people will be voting for. Here is a quick recap. Everyone will vote for 5 people on March 6th. You will vote for Mayor. Mike Mason is running unopposed here.

There are also six City Council posts. Peachtree Corners implemented a system of checks and balances on the Council. Posts 1, 2 and 3 are district posts. You will vote for only one candidate for the district you reside in. Each post will represent a specific district. You can find your district on your new voter registration card under the category of Ward. Or you can locate your district on this .

To balance the interests of the districts, there are three at-large posts that will represent the entire city, Posts 4, 5and 6. I am running for Post 4.

While I did hear questions about the candidates, I also had a few questions about our services. I had some great discussions with folks on these issues. I did meet a few who opposed the city. I was very glad to have the opportunity to speak with them and listen to their concerns. We might not see eye to eye on all the issues, but in general we are in agreement about ensuring the city is implemented as promised: limited service, cost effective and community friendly.

I want to thank those this weekend who offered their support for me and especially those who have planted my signs! I will have signs with me tonight. They are free to good homes!

I look forward to meeting more people tonight at the forum. I will be in neighborhoods campaigning the next four weekends as well, so will try to reach as many people as possible between now and election day, March 6.

I will be holding Meet & Greets and the Forum Atlanta Bread Company. I have changed the time to 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. every Thursday between now and the election. There is no agenda, just a place for folks to drop in as they can and discuss city issues. It is blue jean casual and an opportunity for you to ask questions of me or express you concerns. If I am elected, I will continue to hold meet and greet style town hall meetings to ensure that those I represent have the opportunity to be heard.

Again, thanks so much to all those folks I have met. This has been an amazing journey for me and I look forward to continuing on that journey and making even more friends.
