Why I'm Excited About Voting in Our First City Elections

Why I'm excited about voting in our first city elections.

I am very excited about our brand new city, and I want to do my part by voting for our new City Council on Tuesday, March 6.

FYI, each resident will be able to vote for four candidates:

  • one council member that is determined by geographic boundaries (posts 1 through3)  Here’s a link to see which districts are where: , and
  • one vote for each of the 3 At Large positions (posts 4 through 6).

A candidate will win each post by getting 50% + 1 of the
total vote for that post; any runoffs that are needed will occur on April 3.

Here are just a few of the reasons I am looking forward to these elections:

  1. The creation of a new city is historic, and I want to be a part of that process.
  2. I love our area, neighborhoods, and neighbors as much as everybody else does.  I want to do everything I can to guarantee our integrity as a city and to stop the encroachment that was happening by neighboring cities (that were, of course, looking out for their best interests as well).
  3. I love how close we are to Atlanta, but that we are still far enough away to be removed from some of the shenanigans I see inside the city (and the public school scandal is just one example).  I want to be sure that my new city is run intelligently and efficiently by folks that I am proud of and happy to work beside.
  4. I want to be a part of the groundbreaking work that will start this summer to develop our new city charter and then to design and then award the contracts that are needed to run our city.
