19 Traffic Fatalities in Georgia Over the Holiday Weekend

Georgia State Patrol reports travel period more deadly than last year.

The July 4th holiday travel period appeared to be more fatal this year than last, with 19 fatalities reported from law enforcement agencies throughout the state versus 11 in 2010. 

The Georgia State Patrol reported 313 crashes over the travel period, which ran from 6 p.m. on Friday to midnight on July 4.  During that 78-hour period, the agency also reported 230 injuries.

The Gainesville and Cumming area were especially fatal, with seven total traffic-related deaths reported.

There were a total of 17 fatal crashes (some crashes had more than one fatality), occurring in the following Georgia State Patrol posts:

Troop D (2):  GSP LaGrange (1 fatal crash with 2 fatalities)
