Boy, 9, Dies Following Bike Accident

The boy was reportedly struck near Paden Drive in unincorporated Lawrenceville.

The Gwinnett County Police Department Accident Investigation Unit says 9-year-old Christopher Giles of Lawrenceville was involved in a fatal bike accident on April 6th.

According to a release, Giles was riding his bike without a helmet when he was struck by a car heading south on Padens Drive, near the side street Paden Chase Way in unincorporated Lawrenceville. Police say Giles did not stop at the stop sign. The driver reportedly tried to avoid hitting the child, but was not able to.Β 

The boy was taken to with life threatening injuries and ultimately died two days later due to head injuries received from the accident.

Police continue to investigate this accident, however no charges against the driver are pending at this time.

GCPD also reminded citizens in the release, that Georgia law requires anyone under the age of 16 years old must wear a helmet when riding a bicycle. They also suggest riders of all ages wear one as well.
