Gwinnett Fire: No Serious Injuries, Major Damage During Snowstorm

"Gwinnett citizens are to be commended for heeding the advice."

The ice and snow kept Gwinnett Fire crews busy from Tuesday through Thursday morning with 459 calls answered during that span, including 294 medical emergencies.

“Though units were kept busy, there were no reports of serious injury or major structural damage,” Gwinnett Fire spokesman Lt. Colin Rhoden said via email. “Situations where fire units became stuck by the ice and snow were easily handled and units returned to service. …

“Gwinnett citizens are to be commended for heeding the advice of public safety officials and staying off the roads and preparing for the winter storm.”

Rhoden added that officials continually monitored calls, weather and road conditions throughout the storm. Additional engines and ambulances were placed in service. Fire personnel helped staff the County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and the Fire Operations Command Center “War Room” at Fire Headquarters.
