Gwinnett Fire crews respond late Tuesday to Suwanee Dam Road at Cumming Highway.

An explosion and fire in a wooded area late Tuesday in Suwanee resulted in a man being hospitalized with injuries.

According to a release by Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services, crews were called to Suwanee Dam Road and Cumming Highway about 9:30 p.m. Officials were told that there was a "man in the woods surrounded by fire."

The man had second degree burns to his hands, face and limbs, officials said. The man was treated and transported to a hospital.

The incident was believed to be caused when a small propane tank exploded accidentally when it was close to an open fire set by the man. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
