Man Who Tried to Buy Girl as 'Personal Sex Slave' Gets 10 Years

Carl Skow, the Norcross-area man arrested in a federal sting trying to purchase a 14-year-old girl for sex, was sentenced to 10 years in prison Wednesday, Feb. 19, in U.S. District Court in Atlanta.

Skow, 37, will also have a lifetime supervised release and be required to register as a sex offender after his prison term.

Skow was arrested in July 2011, accused of offering undercover agents $2,500 to purchase a girl he believed was from Guatemala.

The federal indictment said Skow posted an online classified ad offering a girl money for sex. Agents communicated with Skow electronically and in person about Skow’s “interest in purchasing a minor female from Guatemala for sexual services,” according to a press release from U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates.

The indictment went on to charge that Skow agreed to pay half of the $2,500 up front, then bring the other half with him to Jackson-Hartsfield Airport to pick up the girl. He was arrested on July 6, 2011 at the airport.

“It is shocking that this defendant would endeavor to buy a young girl, imported from another country, as his personal sex slave,” Yates said in the press release.  “Sex trafficking is a horrendous trade.  Those who insist on preying on innocent people this way should expect jail in their future.”

A search of Skow’s house found a large collection of child pornography on his computer and a list of rules posted on his wall for the minor to follow, “including the rule that she have sex with Skow whenever he chose,” according to the U.S. attorney’s press release.
