News Nearby: Suwanee Man Tells Police He 'Accidentally Shot Wife in Head'

Police are investigating the fatality; no charges have been filed.

Suwanee Police are investigating a fatal shooting from last week in which a man said he "accidentally shot his wife in the head" in their Riverview Run Lane home.

According to police records, a man identified as Steven Thomas told police dispatch about the incident; officers responded on Oct. 10 about 3 a.m.

The deceased woman is identified as Charissa Thomas; officers found her lying face up at the top of the staircase, with a gun positioned between her legs and a cell phone next to her body.

There was a "large amount of blood" on her head, face and body, the incident report said.

No charges have been filed as of Tuesday (Oct. 15), and the incident remains under investigation, according to police spokesperson Capt. Clyde Byers.

Steven Thomas was handcuffed, taken into detention and transported to Suwanee Police Department. He also left some bloodied clothing as evidence. He has been released.

When officers initially responded, they instructed dispatch to tell Steven Thomas to leave the residence unarmed. He eventually appeared at the top of the staircase unarmed.

In the master bedroom, officers noticed that a bedside stand had been moved irregularly, away from a wall. There was blood leading from Charissa Thomas' body through the bedroom and into the master bathroom.

In the bathroom, the sink had several spots of blood on it, and water was still running. Officers also found a cleaning agent and a rag lying on the floor, just outside the bathroom in the bedroom.

Riverview Run Lane is in a subdivision on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard near McGinnis Ferry Road.
