Norcross Man Apparently a Homicide Victim

The body of Timothy Lance Kemp, 46, was found in a grassy area behind an apartment building.

A man’s body was found this morning behind a Harbin Springs Apartments building. Police found the man dead from a gunshot wound to the head in what they believe was a homicide.

The victim has now been identified as 46-year-old Timothy Lance Kemp, a resident of the apartments.

Gwinnett County Police received a call at 8:18 a.m. after a maintenance worker found the body while doing his morning rounds, according to Cpl. Edwin Ritter.

A black male in his 40s was located in a grassy area behind the 100 building of the complex, which is at Twin Springs Trail and Harbins Road in an unincorporated area of Norcross.

“We don’t know what the motive is,” said Ritter.  “This is very preliminary information.” Police do not suspect that the body has been there for a long time, he added.

A Crime Scene Investigation unit is now canvassing the area, talking to neighbors and looking into missing persons reports to gather more information about the case.

It is not known if the shooting happened in the apartment complex or if the body was just disposed of there. “Investigators are looking into everything right now,” said Ritter.
