Police Use Robot to Investigate Suspicious Package

A package left in front of a Gwinnett County city hall was found not be hazardous.

Police used a remote control robot to investigate a suspicious package left in front of a government building in Gwinnett County. The package was found not to be a hazard.

The Lilburn Police Department said in a press release that several agencies were called to Main Street, where a man was seen placing a metal package in front of City Hall, then driving off in a black SUV Tuesday afternoon around 2 p.m.

Lilburn PD shut down the area, and personnel from the Gwinnett Hazardous Device Unit, Joint Terrorism Task Force and Gwinnett Fire all responded to the scene.

β€œUsing a remote-controlled robot, it was determined that the device was not hazardous. Once this determination was made, the area was re-opened to vehicle and pedestrian traffic,” the release stated.

An investigation is ongoing.

The suspect is a dark-skinned white male (possible heavily tanned) wearing a red polo golf shirt and black slacks.
