Questions Remain in Shooting Death of Norcross HS Student

Connection between suspects still unclear. The incident does not appear to be gang related, according to police.

Norcross Police are still searching for answers in last night’s home invasion that resulted in the shooting death of 15-year-old Norcross High School student Nicholas Jackson II.

Norcross Police Chief Warren Summers offered an update on the investigation this afternoon. Police now know that several shots were fired from multiple weapons when the home on the 300 block of Autry Street was invaded before 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Jackson’s sister, Nikia, who was home at the time of the invasion, provided police with critical information that led to the suspects’ arrest just minutes after police were called to the scene. She clearly described the men and the car they were driving, according to the Chief. Norcross Police caught up with the van at a checkpoint on Jimmy Carter Boulevard shortly after.

Several handguns were located in the van and Norcross Police plan on conducting a second search of the vehicle this evening to look for additional evidence, according to Summers.

Nakia’s testimony stated that the men went directly to Jackson when they entered the house, but Summers said it is still unclear if the suspects were searching him out or simply robbing the home. Summers said it is still unclear if the victim was connected to any of the suspects.

“At the moment we do not have a motive,” said Summers, who added that the incident does not appear to be gang-related. “Everything we know about that kid is that he’s an upstanding citizen,” said Summers.

The Iron Sky surveillance systems did not assist police in this case, but some private surveillance footage has been used in the investigation, Summers said.

Six men are in custody, charged with burglary and murder. Summers said that it is unclear how the men, who range in age and are from different parts of Atlanta, are related.  “We are looking into their association with each other,” said Summers. “There’s nothing that connects them right now.”

The suspects, who are being held in the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond are: Anthony Bernard Lumpkin, 32, Douglasville; Rico Dehaven West, 19, Atlanta; Eddie Lewis Green, 46, Atlanta; Jason Dozier, 36, Lithonia; Michael Davis, 23, College Park; and Timothy Lamar Johnson, 34, Atlanta.
