Updated: City Council Approves Wesleyan's Expansion Plans

The private school's request for a special use permit was approved by a vote of 4-3. The Peachtree Corners City Council also weighed in on a number of other agenda items.

At Tuesday's Peachtree Corners City Council meeting city leaders several requests for Special Use Permits and one request for a change in conditions.

City Council approved Wesleyan School's request to expand its athletic fields and tennis courts onto property currently zoned for residential use.

The school's request was passed by a vote of 4-3. Council members Weare Gratwick, Jay Lowe and Lorri Christopher voted against, said Community Development Director Diana Wheeler in an email. "they support Wesleyan but didn't like some of the conditions recommended along with the approval," she said.

City Council votes were unanimous on the remaining ordinance requests.

Council also approved two Buford Highway business requests. Salem Leasing Corporation requested a Special Use Permit in a M-1 Zoning district for truck sales, leasing and service which was approved.

And Amer Habib's request for a change in conditions of property zoned C-2 to remove a permit deadline and reduce the required buffer from 25 feet to 15 was also approved.

The City Council also approved adopting the 2013 City Council meeting calendar to establish a regular meeting schedule and the solid waste ordinance (commercial only).

In new business City Council approved:

  • Agreement with Gwinnett County for hotel and motel tax.
  • Awarded the Comprehensive Plan contract to Pond and Company
  • Approved a 60-day grace period for Gwinnett County alcoholic beverage licenses that currently expire on Dec. 31, 2012.
