Comprehensive Plan the Next Big Step for City

It's time for Peachtree Corners city leaders and its citizens to look ahead 20 years into the future and create a plan to get there.

We all make plans for our future, and the City of Peachtree Corners must also prepare.

As part of a state requirement, the city is tasked with creating a Comprehensive Plan which is a written plan for its future and where the city wants to be in the next 20 years.

At the Peachtree Corners City Council meeting Tuesday those in attendance heard an overview of what is included, its purpose and the importance of community input in developing the plan.

"It's a road map to the future," said Michelle Alexander, who is with Pond & Co. an engineering firm located in Peachtree Corners that has been selected to help with the process.

The exercise of looking two decades ahead will require not only the work of the 15-member advisory committee already in place, but will count on the citizens for their input as well said Alexander.

Decisions on issues such as transportation, land use and development will need to be addressed.

Three Community Meetings have been scheduled and the public is encouraged to attend.

"It's like a business plan for your community," explained Alexander who encouraged citizens to provide input not only at the meeting but to their city leaders. There will be an opportunity to also participate in an online survey which should be available in the near future.

"This is the reason why we wanted to become a city," said Mayor Mike Mason. "Self determination and the ability to control our future."

In other news the City Council heard the first read in a request to rezone property on the corner of Peachtree Parkway and Medlock Bridge Road slated to be developed into retail and restaurant space.

And council also heard the first read of a Special Use Permit request to allow a truck fleet maintenance facility on a business located on Amwiler Road. A second read on these two items will be heard at a future City Council meeting.

The City Council then went into executive session to discuss one real estate matter.

The next City Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m.

First thing they ought to do is condemn every low rent, section 8 style, apt building and duplex, quadplex etc in the city limits. They are dragging down our schools and property values.
