Diverging Diamond Update: Lane Closure on Jimmy Carter Boulevard

One eastbound lane is scheduled to be closed between Crescent and McDonough drives on Nov. 19.

Peachtree Corners commuters heading eastbound on Jimmy Carter Boulevard Tuesday (Nov. 19) may experience some traffic delays as they near I-85 interchange.

The Gwinnett Village Community Improvement District announced on its website that one right eastbound lane between Crescent Drive and McDonough Drive will be closed for construction crews to pour curbs and gutters on that section of the road.

The construction is part of the Diverging Diamond Interchange project which began in the spring of this year. The DDI design uses the existing bridge more efficiently by switching traffic to the left to allow smooth left turns onto the interstate. Pedestrians will use a new walkway in the median, according to a previous news release.

The work involves widening approximately a half-mile of roadway and adding new retaining walls, sidewalks, traffic signals, and curb and gutter. In addition, the timing of other signals approaching the intersection will be adjusted to ensure smooth traffic flow.

The project is projected to be complete by March, 2014.
