Final 8 Makes Final Pitch for City Council

It's down to the wire - just two weeks until the April 3rd runoff.

Monday night Peachtree Corners voters had one last chance to see the eight candidates vying for the final four city council seats as the council-member hopefuls answered the audience's questions at the final UPCCA candidate forum.

"One thing I can tell you, is they sure are good sports," said Gay Shook, UPCCA vice president of programs, as she recognized the men and women who have been a part of all five forums.

Monday night's forum was held in the fellowship hall of from 7:30 - 9 p.m.

Nearly 125 voters came to hear candidates for Post 3 (David Proud and Alex Wright), Post 4 (Jeanne Aulbach and Robert Byars), Post 5 (Lorri Christopher and Gray Terry), and Post 6 (Weare Gratwick and Brian Stickney) answer a variety of questions from the audience.

Moderated by the Honorable Judge Warren Davis, candidates had to field such questions as "What are your goals and objectives for your first year in office?" to "We have a deer problem in Peachtree Corners, how do you think we should handle the deer population?"

Other queries varied from asking the candidates their opinions on whether S.R. 141 should be widened to how they felt about eminent domain and how it might apply to the new city.

Some attending the forum were there just to get another chance to confirm their choice in candidates they would be voting for on April 3rd. But it ended with at least one voter rethinking her choices.

"I changed two of my votes," said Judi Quigley after hearing the candidates speak. That was a rarity said another voter who knows her saying that she never changes her mind once she's decided on a candidate.

Voters head back to the polls in just two weeks to choose the four remaining city council seats that will complete Peachtree Corners first city council. They will join mayor-elect Mike Mason and council members Phil Sadd (Post 1) and Jay Lowe (Post 2) and begin the arduous process of building a city from scratch.

In the audience Monday night was former Norcross mayor Lillian Webb and Gwinnett County Dist. 2 Commissioner Lynette Howard and the two newly elected city council members.
