In all the gun control news following the Sandy Hook school shootings, a bill in the Georgia Legislature would actually expand potential places where firearms could be taken.
And that measure, House Bill 512, is facing a key deadline Thursday (March 7) in the Georgia Legislature.
The bill, also known as the Safe Carry Protection Act, would allow firearms to be taken onto college campuses.
Thursday is "crossover day" in the Georgia Legislature. A bill must pass the House or Senate to be considered by the other body. Otherwise, it is dead for the 2013 legislative session.
HB 512 has drawn the opposition of the chancellor of the state university system. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has reported that Hank Huckaby has lobbied legislators against the bill.
