Gwinnett Begins FY 2013 Budget Process

Elections and Service Delivery Strategy (SDS) matters in their rear-view mirror, Gwinnett County officials Wednesday (Sept. 5) will begin the process of formulating their fiscal year 2013 budget.

Over the next five business days, representatives from various county departments will make their respective pitches to elected officials in hopes of squeezing the most funds for their areas from the overall budget. Elected officials and financial staff members then will juggle priorities to formulate the overall spending plan, which should be unveiled in November. The budget must be passed by the commissioners in January 2013.

Again, Gwinnett BOC Chairman Charlotte Nash has asked six residents to serve on a citizens review panel. They are Houston Bass (BB&T), Mark Brock (Gwinnett County Schools), David Crews (View Point Health), Lois Love (retired, Gwinnett County), Marian Lucia, (formerly Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta), and Herman Pennamon (Georgia Power).

The budget presentations will be available on GwinnettTV, the county's television access channel, and on the "on demand" section of the county website. Both will be on a delayed basis.
