Gwinnett's Board of Commissioners Approves New Sidewalks for Berkeley Lake

The project is to be funded by the 2009 SPLOST program. Work on new walkways will coincide with the city's dam repair project.

On Tuesday the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners announced it had approved a contract for the construction of a pedestrian safety project for the City of Berkeley Lake which includes sidewalks, curb, gutter and other improvements to several of the city's major roads.

The road improvements will be made to North Berkeley Lake Road west of Lakeshore Drive to Bush Road according to a press release from the county.

β€œThis project ties together a network of pedestrian facilities to enhance the quality of life in this part of the county,” said Gwinnett DOT Director Kim Conroy.

The installation of the new sidewalks will be completed in conjunction with the city's dam reconstruction project and "will run continuously from Peachtree Industrial Boulevard to Bush Road along North Berkeley Lake Road and along Bush Road from North Berkeley Lake Road to Medlock Bridge Road," according to the release.

Johnson Landscapes, Inc., (d/b/a Vertical Earth of Cumming) was the lowest of six bidders at $455,269. Funding comes from the 2009 SPLOST program. Construction is expected to be complete in mid-2013.

Work on , is expected to be complete in February 2013. The contractor plans to begin sodding the lower half of the dam in the next two weeks according to the city's website.
