Gwinnett Offices Closed Monday; Public Schools in Session

GCPS students to have snow makeup day on Presidents Day holiday

Federal, state and county offices including Gwinnett County will be closed Monday (Feb. 21) for Presidents Day, but public schools will be in session.

Instead of a holiday, students in Gwinnett County Public Schools will have a snow makeup day Monday. Other snow makeup days are scheduled March 14 and May 26. The dates for two additional snow makeup days for a missed week of school in January due to a severe snowstorm have not been determined.

Presidents Day is not a trash and recycling holiday so haulers will follow the normal trash and recycling schedule the week of Feb. 21.

Abraham Lincoln’s Feb. 12 birthday and George Washington’s Feb. 22 birthday used to be observed separately as holidays. In 1971, President Richard Nixon combined the two holidays into Presidents Day to be observed on the third Monday in February in honor of all past U.S. presidents.
