Gwinnett Welcomes 24 New Firefighters

The Gwinnett County Department of Fire and Emergency Services welcomed 24 new firefighters to its ranks Monday during a ceremony at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center in Lawrenceville.

The new firefighters, 23 men and one woman, were assigned to work in one of the 30 fire stations across the county. The is located on Spalding Drive and on N. Berkeley Lake Road.

The group is the first class of Gwinnett fire recruits ever to pass state level certification testing for both firefighter and emergency medical technician on the first attempt.  "We are proud of the exemplary training and the many accomplishments of our newest firefighters," Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said in a media release.

Commission Chairman Charlotte J. Nash, District-1 Commissioner Shirley Lasseter, District-3 Commissioner Mike Beaudreau and County Administrator Glenn Stephens were on hand for the ceremony.

The graduation ceremony was held in the Auditorium at GJAC and was attended by family members of the new firefighters, fire officials, county staff, and elected officials.  The GJAC Auditorium was packed as firefighters received their shiny new badges and graduation diplomas.
