New Sidewalk, Upgrades on Stretch of Buford Highway

Area from Amwiler to Jimmy Carter Boulevard included in $700K project.

The Gwinnett Board of Commissioners approved a contract to construct a sidewalk on the northern side of Buford Highway south of Jimmy Carter Boulevard.

The sidewalk is planned from Amwiler Road and Jimmy Carter Boulevard. This area borders the Peachtree Corners city limits along Buford Highway.

The area will get curb, gutter and drainage improvements. Also, signal modifications and pedestrian improvements will be made at Amwiler Road, Pleasantdale Road, Jones Mill Road/Button Gwinnett Drive and Oak Road, according to a county press release.

The project will cost a little more than $700,000, and use SPLOST funding.

“GDOT is funding 80 percent of the construction while Gwinnett County handled right-of-way acquisition and is managing construction of the project,” the press release reported. The project is a joint effort between the county, Gwinnett Village CID, and the Georgia DOT.
