Peachtree Corners Adding More Code Enforcement Staff

The City Council approved the addition of a second full-time code enforcement officer and two support staff for the department.

One of the city's three services, code enforcement, will be expanding in the next few months.

The city is adding a second full-time code enforcement officer, two full-time administrative assistants and a part time supervisor said City Manager, Julian Jackson.

The Peachtree Corners City Council approved an amendment to the contract with CH2M Hill, the company contracted to provide those services at its Tuesday, July 16, meeting.

The additional code enforcement staff should be in place and working within a few months according to Jackson.

City Council also approved an intergovernmental agreement with Gwinnett County that it would not collect the hotel/motel and car rental taxes from those businesses that are located in the city through the year 2037 so that the county could satisfy bonded indebtedness incurred on the Civic Center, Arena and Gwinnett Braves stadium.

"I gave my word but I was not mayor at the time," said Mason. "We are keeping those promises."

The 7 percent hotel/motel and car rental taxes that are collected are divided up between the Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau (2 percent) and Gwinnett county (5 percent), said Lisa Anders, GCVB's executive director.

Jackson said Gwinnett County has working on a draft of an intergovernmental agreement regarding the upcoming SPLOST referendum that will be on the ballot in November. According to Jackson the proceeds from the 1-cent sales tax is expected to be divided up between the county and cities based on population. "We'll have more on that later," said Jackson.

Diana Wheeler reminded that the final open house styled meeting on the city's comprehensive plan will be held Thursday, July 25 from 5 - 8 p.m.
