Qualifying Dates Set for Upcoming City Elections

Three Peachtree Corners council seats are up for re-election.

Three of the six Peachtree Corners City Council seats will be on the ballot in the fall. On Nov. 5, 2013, voters have an opportunity to cast their votes to fill the seats for Posts 2, 4 and 6.

Those seats are currently held by Jay Lowe (Post 2), Jeanne Aulbach (Post 4) and Weare Gratwick, (Post 6). All three council members have confirmed with Patch that they intend to run again.

  • "Our first year as a city has been remarkable," said Council member Jeanne Aulbach. "We have accomplished so much! But there is still more work to do. I hope to continue to serve on city council to ensure the city and our services continue to be delivered in a customer service oriented, cost effective manner."
  • Council member Gratwick said of his decision to run again: "I am excited to earn the opportunity to serve for another four years. It has been an incredible experience helping establish our city, but there is still more good work to do!"
  • Jay Lowe, council member said: "Any elected official has a two-fold duty; to listen carefully to the concerns of his constituency, and then to translate those concerns into action through leadership". - I have been transparent, pragmatic and have made my decisions based on fact."

For those contemplating throwing their hats in the ring to run for one of these council seats, qualifying has been set for Monday, Aug. 26 through Wednesday, Aug. 28.

Qualifying will be held at Peachtree Corners City Hall, 147 Technology Parkway from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (Aug 26-28).

The qualifying fee for the office of City Council is $240.00 which is 3 percent of the total gross council member's salary. Qualifying will be conducted in the office of the City Clerk, Kym Chereck.

Peachtree Corners voters also have a chance to decide whether to extend Gwinnett County's 1-cent sales tax (SPLOST).

All 13 polling stations will be open for the November elections said Lynn Ledford, Gwinnett County's Election Supervisor. Peachtree Corners charter stipulates that the county would assist with city elections through 2013.
