Tax Notices Mailed to Wrong Owners

County says recipients should disregard commercial property value assessment notices.

A production error caused 13,944 commercial property value assessment notices to be mailed to the incorrect owners, according to county officials.

Officials say the notices, mailed last Friday, March 25, by the Gwinnett County Board of Tax Assessors should be disregarded. Corrected notices will be mailed on April 6.

“On behalf of Gwinnett County and the Board of Tax Assessors, I apologize for any confusion or inconvenience this error may cause,” said Steve Pruitt, Gwinnett County Tax Assessor in a released statement.

The printing company contracted to print and mail the notices will bear the entire cost of correcting the error. As a result of the delayed mailing, the last day to appeal commercial assessment values will be moved to May 23. The printing company is also mailing postcards to commercial property owners to advise them of the error.

“The County and the printing company recognizes the seriousness of this error, and they are working hard to make it right for all affected by the error,” Pruitt said.

The production error affects only commercial property owners. Residential property assessment notices are scheduled to be mailed on April 15.
