Three More Businesses Request to Enter Norcross

The businesses could have become part of the new City of Peachtree Corners.

At Tuesday night’s Planning and Zoning meeting, , and all petitioned to be a part of the City of Norcross—and P&Z recommended that their requests be approved. 

If the Council moves forward with the requests at a special called meeting on Oct. 17, these parcels will officially be inside the city by Nov. 1, says Chris McCrary, Community Development Director for the city.

These three properties appear to be within the . Residents of that area will vote on cityhood at the Nov. 8. special election.

The has raised some eyebrows within Norcross, with some city officials saying the borders are too aggressive and swallow some areas that people consider Norcross.

The  in an area between Peachtree Industrial and Peachtree Parkway, informing them of the option to annex into the City of Norcross instead of becoming part of a potential new city.

This action prompted Peachtree Corners to launch its own effort to keep businesses in their potential borders.

Overall, four businesses decided to become a part of Norcross, including property with an $8 million  planned, whose owners presented at a Council meeting earlier in the month.

“If you look at Peachtree Corners in terms of land mass and in terms of tax value, this isn’t really that significant,” said McCrary, though he added that it’s not from a lack of effort on the city’s part to educate and inform businesses about the option. One cause he points to is the difficulty of getting a decision like this up and down the corporate ladder in such a short window of time.

All of these businesses have direct connectivity with the current city boundaries. They would like to be annexed under the 100 percent method, meaning 100 percent of the people owning the parcel are putting in the request.
