Veterinary Clinic Wants to Move Into Office Building

On Tuesday night the Peachtree Corners Planning Commission will consider a petition to allow an animal hospital to locate on the bottom floor of a professional building. Businesses on 2nd floor are not in favor of the plans.

The City of Peachtree Corners Planning Commission will hear a request for zoning condition changes to allow for a veterinary clinic on the bottom floor of an office building located on Peachtree Parkway.

Parkway Office Suites is located at 4989 Peachtree Parkway near the Ingles shopping center. Currently the office is zoned C-2 with specific restrictions against adding a veterinary clinic or animal hospital.

Lisa Proctor, of Sanford Rose Associates, who has an office on the second floor, said she and many of the other business owners share her feelings that a veterinary clinic is not a good fit for the professional businesses whose clients would have to navigate through a shared lobby to reach their second floor offices.

"If you do this, and allow this, you are saying you don't care about the businesses," said Proctor of her concern that the City would allow the change in zoning to allow for the animal clinic.

According to a notice posted on the city's website, the petitioner is Alberto L. Bazan, a Peachtree Corners resident. The building has a combined total of 15,000 square feet of office space on the two floors. The bottom floor is vacant, the second floor is leased to 26 businesses including  attorneys, professional counselors, IT companies, employment placement services and accounting firms.

Bazan said he would do everything to ensure the existing tenants were comfortable if the animal clinic was allowed to move into the office space. Bazan is represented by Dick Carouthers, who is also the attorney for the City of Berkeley Lake.

Peachtree Corners' planning and zoning department has made its recommendation against the plans for a vet office citing a number of concerns and suggesting that there are other properties within the city limits more suitable for this type of business.

There will be a public hearing during the Planning Commission meeting to allow for any one to speak on this request for change in conditions to the current zoning.
