Honor

Thoughts The Day Before The Election

As an Eagle Scout, the phrase "On My Honor" is something that I carry with me everyday.  In essence, it is defined as "honesty, fairness or integrity in one's beliefs or actions".  Everyone has their own sense of honor, given his or her viewpoint of the world.  Three of the things that I honor without question are God, family and country.  This is why I am running for City Council of Peachtree Corners.

When I say that it has been an honor to be your candidate for City Council of Peachtree Corners Post 4 At-Large, I cannot begin to say how thankful I am for all of the support that we have received over the past months.  Whether it is going door-to-door, meeting you while walking in the streets, dropping off my daughter to daycare, or out eating with my wife, there have been countless times that members of our local community have came up to me vouching their support and giving encouraging words.  It did not matter your age, color, political beliefs, location in the city, or even religion, you believed in my commitment to represent you as an individual who truly cares about his community and its future.  Even the recent endorsements from the six candidates who ran fantastic races shows a diverse collection of support that is rarely seen.  I am honored to have both theirs and your support leading up to the April 3rd Runoff Election.

Too many times, people are accused of political agendas or ulterior motives for running for office.  In fact, some outside factors believe that they have stakes in these seats for this brand new city and city council.  Well, they can go ahead and think that because it will not go anywhere with me.  My commitment has been and continues to be to the future of Peachtree Corners, upholding the Charter, and representing each and every one of the citizens of Peachtree Corners.  My campaign has been non-partisan since Day 1 and I will carry that with me as your city councilman.

To have the honor of serving on the City Council of Peachtree Corners, especially an At-Large Post, means that I both represent all of the citizens of the city as well as support the other councilmen in their respective posts.  On April 3rd, I hope to be your choice.  I have served tirelessly in the community and I have shown that no matter who you are, you have a voice here in Peachtree Corners.

My 3-year old daughter, Olivia, will one day ask my wife and me what do we love about Peachtree Corners.  I will smile and tell her that we love the fact that she had a home where neighbors of a variety of backgrounds were able to come together and help shape what she's sees around her: a vibrant community, an active community, an informed community, a community that fosters growth both residentially and economically, a community that gave her a first class education and friends she could grow with, a community that is based on concern for each other.  I want to be able to say to her that we worked today in order to give her and future generations a city that they can both be proud of and call home.  On April 3rd, your vote for Robert Byars for Peachtree Corners City Council Post 4 At-Large will mean that I will honor our collective futures and I will always be humbled with the honor of serving as you as your Post 4 At-Large councilman.
