A day at the gaming complex

I typically enjoy a walk by the river or a good bike ride, but sometimes I like the rather touristy local attractions.

I was a good sport. It was a Monday and I had the day off.  My young teen daughter said it was the perfect day to visit Malibu Grand Prix. I was never into the gaming/go-cart/bumper car thing. To me, these types of places have always been a tourist trap to me, but on this hot summer day, I didn’t mind as I was looking for something a bit different.

My daughter, her friend along with her little brother and dad, met me a few minutes before 11 a.m., the supposed opening time according to the Web site. When we got there, I noticed that opening time was posted as 12 noon. We called via mobile phone and indeed, opening time was 11 a.m.  Suddenly, Phil Collins’ "Easy Lover" was blaring over the outdoor JBL speakers as the employees came up to the gate to open up. The kids ran in and made a beeline to the counter to purchase tickets.

As the mercury was climbing, we did our best to hit the outdoor activities first. The girls got into their go-carts and immediately took to driving like the experts that they are. There’s no doubt that they’re ready for driving, but I’m not ready for them to get on our rather dangerous roads.

For me, the bumper boats were a blast. It wasn’t even noon and it was already reaching near 90 degrees. The boats’ squirt guns were a welcome sight as we all cooled each other down.

Batting cages and putt-putt have never been an interest to me, but I was a bit curious. Perhaps I’ll sneak a trip over to these activities next time.

All of the outdoor activity made me thirsty and hungry. I was ready to indulge in their lunchtime fare complete with burgers and fries.

When the stifling heat hit the Malibu Grand Prix’s roof, we were in the cool indoors where the kids could play a bevy of video games and old time games. My little one collected enough tickets to redeem prizes which were two more stuffed animals for her huge collection.

If you’re looking for fun, look no further than this entertainment complex on Norcross’ Brook Hollow Parkway.
