Duluth High Seniors Graduate Wednesday

There will be cheers and tears as the Wildcat seniors collect their diplomas and leave their school days behind them as they head off into the future.

The long awaited day has arrived for the 529 Duluth High School seniors and their friends and family who will attend the graduation ceremony for the Class of 2012 at the Gwinnett Arena today (May 23) at 4 p.m.

The graduating class includes 106 Duluth HS honor graduates who achieved a grade percent average of 90 or above.

Leading the class will be Valedictorian Ayshali Gauba, daughter of Sandeep and Sapna Gauba, and Salutatorian Jason Gong, son of Hongguan Gong and Juan Li.

Ayshali plans to attend Georgia Institute of Technology and major in industrial systems and engineering. Jason intends to major in business administration at the University of Georgia.

Eighty-six percent of 2012 GCPS graduates plan to continue their education by attending college or post-secondary schools, according to the school system. They have been offered more than $101 million in academic, athletic and military scholarships.

More than $67.8 million of this amount represents academic scholarships. These figures do not include HOPE scholarship recipients and Gates Millennium Scholars.

Gwinnett County Online Campus, which opened as a charter school last August, graduates its first class of 12, who earned high school diplomas. A graduation schedule for all GCPS high schools is included with this article.
