Five Norcross HS Students Awarded Broad Scholarships

A total of 51 Gwinnett graduating seniors share $1 million prize money.

Last fall Gwinnett County Public Schools were awarded a $1 million Broad Prize for Urban Education, which provides scholarship funds for college tuition.

After submitting scholarship applications, five graduating seniors from Norcross High School were chosen to receive scholarships. They were among the 51 students representing 17 Gwinnett high schools who were selected.

The students submitted applications for the scholarships and were selected based on the recommendations of an independent application review committee. The committee was made up of admissions, enrollment and financial aid professionals from college and universities.

The Broad Prize, awarded annually, recognizes urban school districts that demonstrate the greatest overall performance and improvement in student achievement while reducing income and ethnic achievement gaps.

Graduating seniors awarded scholarships are eligible for two- or four-year scholarships. Students who enroll in four-year colleges receive $20,000 scholarship funds paid out over four years; students who enroll in two-year colleges or technical programs receive $5,000 in scholarship funds paid out over two years.

The scholarship receipients were recognized at the Gwinnett County Public School Board meeting that was held on May 19.
