Fourth Graders Celebrate Pioneer Day At Berkeley Lake ES

School children learned about the simplicity of pioneer life during special class activities.

Berkeley Lake Elementary School gave fourth graders the chance to forget our micro-wave and digital society for a few hours by immersing them in candle making, butter churning, and potpourri making.

They were also given the opportunity to build simple toys like dolls from cloth scraps and clothes pins, bean bags filled with wheat and whirligigs from paper and yarn.

There were simple outdoor games and later the children were treated to a cornbread snack and they even made their own butter.Β

Enthusiastic students moved between class rooms not only to hear about the simplicity of pioneer life, but also to experience it in story, song and instruction.Β
