Gwinnett Schools Hiring Special Education Teachers

District officials project they will need to hire about 250 special education teachers for the 2013-2014 school year.

Gwinnett County Public Schools is in great need of special education teachers, and the district is hosting a job fair to attract eligible candidates.

The job fair is scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon on April 20 at the district headquarters, located at 437 Old Peachtree Road, Building 200. Interviews are by invitation only, and potential candidates may request to attend.

Job fair requests will be accepted until all interview spaces are filled.

After submitting a request, candidates selected to attend will receive a separate email confirming his or her invitation to attend. Applicants must then complete registration before attending. No walk-up registrations will be considered.

The district plans to hire approximately 575 teachers to start in August, and about half of those are needed for special education classes, school officials said.

Special education staff hires hit 357 this year, according to a district staffing report. By comparison, there were 301 new elementary hires, 205 for middle school and 248 for high school.
