Gwinnett Schools Set New Record for Food Bank Donations

Gwinnett County School students and staff collected a record 172,500 items of canned food and household staples during the October 2013 Gwinnett Great Days of Service.

The Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation, working along with the Gwinnett Coalition, assisted 112 Gwinnett County schools and district-wide offices in the county wide food drive.

Through the combined efforts, the drive collected enough to fill 8.2 tractor trailers. Among the groups that benefitted was the Norcross Co-operative.

"The generosity of GCPS is overwhelming," said Ellen Gerstein, executive director of Gwinnett Coalition for Health and Human Services. "It is so gratifying to see the example set by adults and embraced by young people."

Other groups that benefitted from the drive:
Duluth Co-operative
Lawrenceville Co-operative
North Gwinnett (Buford) Co-operative
South East Gwinnett (Snellville) Co-operative
Lilburn Co-operative
The Savation Army
The Quinn House
Huffman House
