Press release from Gwinnett County Public Schools

The progress that Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) students have made on their Advanced Placement (AP) courses resulted in all of the district’s traditional high schools and its charter school to be honored by the Georgia Department of Education. State Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Barge announced this week that 19 GCPS high schools are among the 462 schools from around the state named AP Honor Schools.

“We’re proud that Gwinnett schools continue to earn state recognition,” says Dr. Kevin Tashlein, Gwinnett’s associate superintendent for School Improvement and Operations. “This type of recognition speaks to the exceptional job our teachers do in challenging students with rigorous material and preparing them for college-level work and a successful future.”

During the 2012-2013 school year, 12,944 GCPS students participated

in 24,568 AP exams. That’s an increase from the previous year when 12,205 Gwinnett high school students took 23,468 AP exams.
