Meet DHS's New Head Football Coach

Jason Conner to lead Duluth High School Wildcats football program.

The Duluth Wildcats football team has a new head coach. Jason Conner, a teacher at Duluth High School, assistant head football coach and offensive coordinator, has been named the new head football coach at Duluth High School.

DHS Principal Anthony Smith announced Friday (March 1) that Conner will fill the position previously held by Corey Jarvis, former head football coach, who resigned recently.

"We are so pleased to have Coach Conner take on the role of head football coach for DHS,” Smith said. “First and foremost, he is an outstanding teacher of impeccable character – the kind of person you would want your own children to be around. Second, he knows first-hand what it means to successfully compete week in and week out in one of the most competitive regions in the state. As an offensive coordinator for Duluth High School, Coach Conner led an offense that generated an average of over 26 points per game this past year.

“I would also add that Coach Conner loves the Duluth community, he believes in our kids, and he is committed to the long-term success of the football program here in Duluth. In short, he is the right man for the job."

An educator with eight years experience, Conner has been at Duluth High School since 2011. He earned a bachelor’s degree in social science education from the University of Georgia and a master’s degree in curriculum, instruction and assessment from Walden University.

Conner previously worked as the passing game coordinator for Head Football Coach T. McFerrin at Jefferson High School in Jefferson, GA. Bill Navas, current athletic director at Duluth High School, was the head football coach at Jefferson prior to coming to DHS. Conner served as co-offensive coordinator under Navas at Jefferson HS for two seasons.

Conner and his wife Amy, a nurse practitioner, live in Braselton and have one son, Brayden. Conner grew up in New Orleans, Lilburn and Vidalia, GA. He graduated from Vidalia High School where he played football, baseball, basketball, and soccer.

Jarvis, who coached the Duluth Wildcats for the past three seasons, announced his retirement in February citing personal reasons.

He lives in Lithonia, and the time commitment the Duluth coaching job required was hard on him and his family, he said. Jarvis and his wife have three young daughters.
