What's going on at local schools?

Peachtree Corners-area school briefs from the Gwinnett County Public Schools:

  • The Norcross High Wind Symphony students competed at the 64th Annual High School Music Festival at UGA. Directors Lee Newman and Jessie Matthews both received the Citation of Excellence from the National Band Association for the students’ performance.
  • Simpson Elementary hosted a day-long visit from former astronaut Col. Shane Kimbrough on Feb. 4. Col. Kimbrough spoke to students about his experiences and the science of space.
  • Central Gwinnett Cluster Schools will host a celebration of the arts at the second annual “Committed to Kids” night. The event will take place at Central Gwinnett High on Feb. 18 beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the theater with featured musical performances by students from Cedar Hill Elementary, Jenkins Elementary, Lawrenceville Elementary, Simonton Elementary, Winn Holt Elementary, Moore Middle, Richards Middle, and Central Gwinnett High.
  • School will be in session on Feb. 17 to make up Jan. 7 (Snow make-up Day Priority 1).
