Peachtree Elementary Principal Announces Her Retirement

Beverly Smith plans to retire from the Peachtree Corners school in December.

Peachtree Elementary principal Beverly Smith has announced that she plans to retire as of Dec. 1.

A letter sent home Friday to parents said Smith's decision came with an "incredible mix of emotions," the Gwinnett Daily Post reported.

Peachtree Elementary is part of the Norcross Cluster of Gwinnett County Public Schools.

Here is a message posted on the school's Facebook page Oct. 7:

"Dr. Beverly Smith has announced her plans to retire as principal of Peachtree Elementary School as of December 1, 2013.

"Dr. Smith has been a hard-working and dedicated leader helping the Peachtree Elementary community continue its excellence in educating our children. She has led us as we've implemented several major initiatives including GCPS's eClass, the alignment of the Common Core Curriculum with GCPS AKS, and continuing the International Baccalaureate Programme.

"Dr. Smith has given tirelessly of herself to our students, their families and our staff. She will be missed. We all wish her the very best in the next chapter of her life."

Smith has worked within GCPS since 1974, and has served as principal of Peachtree Elementary since 2009, the Post reported.

The district may appoint a replacement at the Oct. 17 board meeting.
