Simpson Elementary Earns 'Georgia Schools of Excellence' Award

One of only two Gwinnett County Schools, the Peachtree Corners elementary school is recognized among top 10 percent for scholastic achievement.

Peachtree Corners' Simpson Elementary School continues to garner accolades and recognitions for its students' stellar academic performances.

Today Gwinnett County School System announced that Simpson Elementary School was one of only two Gwinnett County schools to earn the prestigious "Georgia School of Excellence."

Simpson, which is located on East Jones Bridge Road, was recognized along with Parkview High School in Lilburn as being among the state's top schools for the work they have done to improve student achievement.

The Georgia Schools of Excellence awards are granted in two categories, with one school from each congressional district chosen in the following categories:

Greatest Gains, schools that demonstrate the greatest continuous gains in student achievement for the past three years in reading and mathematics.

Top 10 Percent: Schools that are in top 10 percent schools in Georgia as measured by assessments in reading and mathematics.

Both schools were recognized in the "Top 10 Percent" category.

"We have wonderful students who study hard and strive to be good leaders every day," says Simpson Elementary principal Bron Gayna Schmidt, who also gives credit to Simpson's teachers. "Our staff members work tirelessly and give so much because they love children and want each child to reach his or her highest potential.

"The Simpson community is a wonderful example of how school, home and community work together for the success of children."

This isn't the first time Simpson Elementary has received recognition on the state level for its academic achievements. The school was also recognized by the Governor's Office of Student Achievement at the platium level for four consecutive years for having the highest percentage of students meeting or exceeding academic standards on the CRCT exam.

Also receiving accolades was Principal Bron Gayna Schmidt, who was named a 2008 High Performance Principal by Governor Sonny Perdue, based on improved student achievement.
