Simpson Elementary Teacher a Semifinalist for Teacher of the Year

Stacey Dunlap, a media specialist at the Peachtree Corners school, is one of 26 semifinalists.

Gwinnett County Public Schools recently released its list of semifinalists for 2014 Teacher of the Year. 

Simpson Elementary Media Specialist, Stacey Dunlap was among the list of 26 teachers selected by a committee of their peers. 

From an initial list of 130, the 15 semifinalists consists of 15 elementary, six middle and five high school teachers.

This year's elementary school semifinalist are:

Marcus Sowcik of Anniston ES - Special Education Teacher
Karon M. Stocks, Benefield ES - Literacy Coach
Louvene Williams, Chattahoochee ES - 5 grade teacher
Shannon Wiley, Harbins ES - 1st grade teacher
Desiree Hempen, Harmony ES - 2nd grade teacher
Susie Bullock, Head ES - kindergarden teacher
Jessica Newsome, Jenkins ES - instructional coach
Stacy Greenstein Lord, Lawrenceville ES - instructional coach
Margaret LaHatte, McKendree ES - 1st grade teacher
Rachael Renje, Monarch School - special education teacher
Heather Watkins, Mulberry ES - 1st grade teacher
Amy E. Riker, Puckett's Mill ES - 4th grade teacher
John C. O'Keefe, Riverside ES - 4th grade teacher
Stacy Dunlap, Simpson ES - medial specialist
Dr. Carrie Doker, Sugar Hill ES - 4th grade teacher

Middle school semifinalists:

Lissette McRea, Berkmar MS - language arts teacher
Carla Sebastian Kunym, Five Forks MS - language arts and social studies teacher
Joan McElroy, Lanier Middle - literacy coach
Jan Chastain, Osborne MS - science teacher
Carol Williams, Summerour MS - mathematics teacher
Nathaniel Amrine, Twin Rivers MS - mathematics teacher

High school semifinalists:

Ashley Allgood, Brookwood HS - Latin teacher
Hyunjin Son, Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology - engineering teacher
Dr. Marietta Malone, Meadowcreek HS - AP and gifted language arts teacher
Tim Rondeau, Mill Creek HS - mathematics teacher
Lisa York, Peachtree Ridge HS - language arts teacher

The committee, made up of teachers, central office personnel and administrators will narrow down the list to one elementary, one middle and one high school Teacher of the Year. The three will be announced at the annual banquet in November. And one of the three "level winners" will be named Gwinnett's 2014 Teacher of the Year.

The 2014 Gwinnett County Teacher of the Year will be held Nov. 7, 2013 at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth.
