Simpson ES Earns 'Georgia School of Excellence' Award

The Peachtree Corners school is one of two Georgia schools recognized for advances in student achievement.

Simpson Elementary School, long known as one of the top-performing schools in the county, has another title to add to its arsenal of accolades - "Georgia School of Excellence."

The Peachtree Corners school was awarded the prestigious title this past Monday by State Superintendent of Education, Dr. John Barge, who visited the school to present the award.

Only two Gwinnett County schools received the award, Parkview High School also was recognized this week.

The Georgia School of Excellence awards are granted in two categories:

  • Greatest Gains, which recognizes schools that demonstrate the greatest continuous gains in student achievement for the past three years in reading and math.
  • Β And Top 10%, which recognizes schools that are in the top 10 percent of schools in the state as measured by assessments in reading and math.

"We have wonderful students who study hard and strive to be good leaders every day," said Simpson Elementary Principal Bron Gayna Schmidt in a GCPS press release.

Schmidt also credits her dedicated teachers adding, "Our staff members work tirelessly and give so much ... The Simpson community is a wonderful example of how school, home and community work together for the success of children."

Simpson Elementary and Parkview High join a growing list of Gwinnett schools which have been recognized as Georgia Schools of Excellence. In 2009, Osborne Middle and Peachtree Ridge High were presented with the honor.

This year's Georgia Schools of Excellence winners receive a $1,000 award from Georgia Natural Gas.
