Wesleyan's Assistant Headmaster for Academic Affairs to Retire

Kathy Benson announced she will leave the private Peachtree Corners school after the end of the school year.

students and staff will say goodbye to a long-time employee after the end of the 20121-13 school year.

Kathy Benson, the school's Assistant Headmaster for Academic Affairs for the past 14 years announced this week that she is retiring.

"Kathy has been a godsend over the past 14 years," said Headmaster Zach Young, "and there will be celebrations for her time her in the spring. I thought it would be nice to make the announcement to everyone now so she gets a full year of love from all of us and a round of applause prior to retirement."

Benson began in 1998 as the Dean of Faculty, during her tenure she has played a key role in developing the K-12 curriculum, assisted in creating the Academic Council and establishing a professional development program for the faculty as well as other contributions.

Ramona Blankenship, the current Middle School Principal, has been named to take over as Assistant headmaster for Academic Affairs. She will begin her new assignment in the 2013-14 school year.

Blankenship joined the Wesleyan as a faculty member in 1997 serving as the sixth grade chair and has been Wesleyan's Middle School Principal since 2004.

She has assisted in a number of new programs at the school including creating of New Student Orientation for middle school and she has worked to improving the transition between lower school and high school.

Blankenship has served on SACS/SAIS committees, created a new middle school schedule and assisted in developing the curriculum for Critical Reading and Critical Thinking for fifth and sixth grade math classes.
