Wesleyan Tennis Teams Split Matches with Whitefield Academy

The Region 5-A tournament will be held Tuesday-Wednesday at the Blackburn Tennis Center.

The Wesleyan tennis teams split a pair of matches against Whitefield Academy. The girls posted a 4-1 victory after both the doubles teams claimed wins on April 5.

The No. 1 team of Sally Robertson/Julie Rodriguez posted a victory as did the No. 2 team of Amanda Smay/Dee Dee Seaman. Wesleyan also picked up points from Megan Kelly at No. 1 singles and Carolina Nelson at No. 2 singles.

The win was Wesleyan’s eighth of the year. ... The boys could not duplicate the girls’ success as the Wolves fell 3-2 to Whitefield. The Wolves’ points came from Jeffery Chang at No. 2 singles and from the No. 2 doubles team of Andrew Dorman and Zach Taylor. ...

The boys meanwhile took care of No. 4 Mount Pisgah 3-2. Wesleyan is No. 3 in the state and will enter the region tournament with a chance to make a run at a state title. The Region 5-A tournament will be held Tuesday-Wednesday at the Blackburn Tennis Center.

Golf

In girls golf, the Wesleyan girls squad claimed a 13-stroke victory over the Pace Academy girls team 61-74 last Thursday. Taylor Blair posted a 26, good enough for a one-under score on the Par 3 course at River Pines.
