Winter Band and Chorus Concert at Wesleyan High School

Don't miss the Winter Concert at Wesleyan H.S. this Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the Powell Auditorium. It will be a "Glee-filled" experience.

One and all are welcome to attend the Winter Band and Chorus Concert held at Wesleyan H.S., Wednesday, February 16th, at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

The program presented by the Concert Band, is directed by Jeff Foster who is in his 13th year at Wesleyan. He explains that this concert is a “culmination of this years work.”

The concert serves as a trial run for a band competition that the Concert Band will be taking part in on April 2nd. Foster says that performing this music helps the students develop their musicianship. In the fall the band has to focus on marching as well as playing, but now they can put more emphasis on the technical parts of their music.

The bands selections will include: Men of Ohio (Henry Fillmore), Ballade (Darren Jenkins), Dancing In Air (Yo Goto) and a Percussion Ensemble piece called Storm Break (Jim Casella).

Band parent Gina Solomon says that, “The band was a great place for her son Cody to land when he came to Wesleyan. He loves music and has made immediate connections with the band family.”

The chorus portion of the program will be a “Glee-ful” experience. Directed by John Peed, Wesleyan Director of Fine Arts, the evening of singing is sure to entertain.

The chorus selections are, from the men: Billionaire (Bruno Mars), Hey There Delilah (Plain White T’s) and Finally Home (Mercy Me). And from the ladies: On My Own, solo-Caroline Reed (Le Miserables), Build Me Up Buttercup (Tony McCauley), Chain of Fools (Aretha Franklin) and Sing Ladies With a Crush (medley).

Director Peed has been directing for 40 years, with this being his 3rd year at Wesleyan. He likes to introduce many styles of music to his students. He loves teaching the chorus because “People like to sing and you sing for your whole life.”

Peed is glad for them to combine the singing and dancing as they are in this concert but especially enjoys concentrating on vocal work. The chorus will be working hard to prefect their art as they prepare for a festival coming up in a couple of months.

Come and enjoy this combined concert of the Wesleyan H.S. Concert Band and Chorus.
