Yes, Gwinnett Schools Are in Session Friday

The state's largest school system will hold classes today.

It is business as usual for Gwinnett County schools on Friday (January 18).

As of 6:20 a.m., the state's largest school system had served no notice that it would close or delay classes because of the possibility of roadway icing. System policy is to wait as late as 6 a.m. the day of classes before deciding whether to cancel.

That's a short window for some students, as high schoolers in Peachtree Corners who attend Norcross High start classes at 7:10 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service, the worst is over. The early morning temperature Friday was above freezing, the high was expected to reach 53.

The Gwinnett system will be closed Monday, January 21, for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

There are three snow makeup days built into the 2012-13 GCPS calendar -- February 17, March 14, and May 21.
