Facts and Stats on the Final Round of the PGA Championship

The 93rd PGA Championship winner, Keegan Bradley, becomes the seventh consecutive first-time major champion.

First-Time Major Champion Streak Extends to Seven: With his win today, Keegan Bradley becomes the seventh consecutive first-time major champion -- Graeme McDowell (2010 U.S. Open Championship); Louis Oosthuizen (2010 Open Championship); Martin Kaymer (2010 PGA Championship); Charl Schwartzel (2011 Masters); Rory McIlroy (2011 U.S. Open Championship); and Darren Clarke (2011 Open Championship).
 
The new mark of seven straight first-time major champions is now the longest in history.
 
International Streak Ends at Six: Bradley's win today ends a string of six consecutive major championship victories by international players. Phil Mickelson had been the last American to capture a major championship (2010 Masters).
 
Belly Up: Bradley is the first player to win a major championship with a belly putter.
 
Second Straight Playoff: This is the second consecutive year that the PGA Champion has been determined after a three-hole aggregate-score playoff. Last year, Martin Kaymer defeated Bubba Watson at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis.   
 
Key Stretch for Bradley: After he triple bogeyed the par-3 15th hole, Bradley birdied three of the next four holes, including the first hole of the playoff.

 PGA Professional Connection: Keegan Bradley is the fifth PGA Champion to have a father who is a PGA Club Professional. His father, Mark, is the PGA head professional at Jackson Hole (Wyo.) Golf and Tennis Club. The other Champions with fathers who are PGA Club Professionals -- Jack Burke Jr. (1956); Dave Marr (1965); Davis Love III (1997); and Rich Beem (2002).
 
 Finishing Scores Under Par vs. 2001: There were 20 players who finished under par over 72 holes this week. In the 2001 PGA Championship, also played here at the Atlanta Athletic Club, there were 36 players who finished under par.
 
 Nice Weekend for Toms: David Toms, winner of the 2001 PGA Championship here at the Atlanta Athletic Club, shot 67 today and finished at 5-under par for the Championship. Toms played the final 36 holes at 8-under par and tied for fourth.

 Just a Coincidence?:  Phil Mickelson, the 2005 PGA Champion, and Ryan Palmer posted the same score in each round this week -- 71-70-69-70 -- 280.
 
Hansen, Larrazabal Shoot Low Final Round: Anders Hansen of Denmark and Pablo  Larrazabal of Spain each shot 66, the low round of the day. Hansen shot 33 on each nine and finished third. Larrazabal birdied holes 12, 13 and 14 to shoot 32 on the back nine and finish tied for 45th.
 
Plenty of Action at No. 6: The tees were moved up to 289 yards at the sixth hole today, giving many in the field the chance to drive the green at the par-4. Here are the results:
 
54 went for the green
12 kept their drives on the green
21 laid up short of the green on their drives
8 hit their drives in the water near the front of the green
 
There were:

33 birdies
36 pars
5 bogeys
1 double bogey
 
The sixth hole played to a stroke average of 3.653, third-easiest hole on the course.
 
Verplank Comes Close Again: Scott Verplank, who tied for seventh in the 2001 PGA Championship, fared even better in his return to the Atlanta Athletic Club. Verplank tied for fourth today after shooting an even-par 70 and finishing at 5-under par.
 
Five in a Row for Stricker: Steve Stricker ended the Championship at 1-under par, his fifth consecutive Top 20 finish in a major championship.
 
 Small, Low PGA Club Professional, Finishes With 78: For the second time in his career, Mike Small finished as the Low PGA Club Professional in the PGA Championship. The men's golf coach at the University of Illinois, Small closed with 78 today and tied for 69th place.

This was the third time that Small made the cut in seven PGA Championship appearances. He competed this week in his 10th major championship.
 
Next year the 94th PGA Championship will be played next year (Aug. 9-12) on The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island (S.C.) Golf Resort. The Ocean Course was the venue for the 1991 Ryder Cup, the 2005 PGA Professional National Championship and the 2007 Senior PGA Championship.
