Gwinnett Braves Drop Into Second Place

Atlanta native Hermida helps Louisville at Coolray Field.

Atlanta native and former major league phenom Jeremy Hermida led the Louisville Bats to a 9-6 victory over the Gwinnett Braves on Wednesday night at Coolray Field. With the win, the G-Braves (54-44) dropped to a half-game behind Durham in the International League South.

Hermida, who played at Wheeler High in Marietta, was 4-for-5 with an RBI. In 2002, Hermida was the No. 1 draft choice of the Florida Marlins. In 2005, he became one of four major leaguers to hit a grand slam HR in his first at-bat.

Stefan Gartrell hit his league-leading 22nd HR for Gwinnett.
