Gwinnett Hall-of-Famer Eddie Martin Named National Hoops Coach of the Year

Martin, a former player at Central Gwinnett, and winning coach at GAC, Norcross and Brookwood, was named Student Sports National Coach of the Year.

Longtime Gwinnett County basketball coach Eddie Martin, who brought a winning formula to Brookwood, Norcross and, currently, Greater Atlanta Christian School, has been named Student Sports National Coach of the Year.

The organization announced the news on its website.

Martin has won seven Georgia High School Association state titles, including four in the last six seasons at GAC, which won the 2014 championships after completing an undefeated season.

He also won three crowns at Norcross High — three straight, in fact, from 2006 to 2008. It was the first three-peat in Georgia’s highest division in more than 60 years.

Martin, a former player at Central Gwinnett High School, was Brookwood’s first basketball coach, coaching the Broncos for 20 seasons.

His record at GAC is 174-19.

Martin was an inductee in the Gwinnett Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.
