Jimenez Goes Wire-to-Wire in Winning Greater Gwinnett Championship at Sugarloaf

It was his debut tournament on the PGA Champions Tour.

Miguel Angel Jimenez, playing in his first PGA Champions Tour event, led from the start in winning the Greater Gwinnett Championship at TPC Sugarloaf near Duluth.

Jimenez, 50, shot a 14-under-par 202 for three rounds, including a 67 in Sunday’s final round. Bernhard Langer, the defending champion, was in second place, two strokes back.

Jimenez won $270,000 for first place.

Jay Haas (-10) was third, Fred Couples (-9) fourth and David Frost, Steve Pate and Duffy Waldorf (-7) tied for fifth.

The win continued Jimenez’s run of success in Georgia. The Spaniard was fourth at the Masters the previous week in Augusta.

“It shows my game is in very good shape now,” Jimenez told PGATour.com. “A very nice day, I played very solid, very well. It’s great to play in first Champions event and win.”
