Norcross Beats North, Takes Region Lead

Blue Devils avenge earlier defeats with 31-21 win over the Bulldogs.

ended a four-game losing streak to North Gwinnett, and took the early lead in the Region 7-AAAAAA standings with a 31-21 win Friday in Suwanee.

Clinton Lynch caught two touchdown passes from Joseph Wilber for the Blue Devils (3-1, 1-0 in the region). North Gwinnett fell to 2-1, 0-1.

Alvin Kamara scored on a 5-yard run, Kevin Mouhon returned an interception 86 yards for a TD, and Joseph Mahfood kicked a 24-yard field goal for Norcross.

Many believe the winner of the this game now has the inside track on the region title, since both teams were state-ranked and considered the best two teams in 7-AAAAAA.

“It’s not an indication necessarily of what will fall out the rest of the way, but it definitely gives you a leg up,” Norcross coach Keith Maloof told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “Like in every other region, winning the first one is big.”

The game also ended North Gwinnett's streak of 22 straight region victories.
