YMCA Youth Participate in Triathlon Event
Children ages 5-15, swam, cycled and ran at the recent Atlanta Kids Triathlon event which was held at the West Gwinnett Aquatic Center.
More than 827 kids ran, swam and biked their way to triathlete status on August 26 as they participated in the Atlanta Kids Triathlon which was held at the in Berkeley Lake.
Over 30 children from Fowler YMCA in Peachtree Corners participated in the event which was open to children throughout the Atlanta metro area.
was proud to be able to offer a free seven-week training program leading up to the event. The training focused on the four components that make up a triathlon – swimming, biking, running and transitions. By race day, Fowler Y's youth were ready to go!

The day started with a sunrise service at 6 a.m. and by 7:30 the kids had their gear set up, organized and ready for the first race to begin.
Children ages 5 to 10, swam 100 yards, biked three miles and ran a half a mile; and the older kids, ages 11 to 15, swam 200 yards, biked six miles and ran a mile.

Hundreds of families and friends cheered them on as they achieved their goal of finishing the race! Each participant received a medal for completing in the event.
The YMCA is often times a starting point for many to learn about becoming active and developing healthy habits. And the benefits are far greater than just physical health. Whether it’s meeting new friends, building skills, developing interests and trying new things, participating in Y sports is about building the whole child, from the inside out. Y programs emphasize values, sportsmanship, friendship and most of all, fun!
